Peter Brecht lives and breathes all things oil and gas. With more than 15 years of operations management experience and a degree in marketing and statistics from Concordia University Irvine, he brings a practical, field-informed perspective to energy insurance. As a commercial insurance broker, Peter delivers strategic risk management solutions for energy businesses across the United States and abroad. His expertise extends beyond oil and gas to other industries, allowing him to tailor solutions that address the unique needs of various sectors.

He lives in San Diego, California, but spends much of his time on the road between basins, from Taft to the Permian, the Bakken, and the Appalachian. “My wife surfs, so outside of tanker surfing in the Gulf of America, California will have to remain our home,” Peter says. “There’s also a very promising future for local energy in California if we can sort out our politics.” The energy industry requires specialized insurance and risk management solutions to address its unique risks and operational complexities.

In 2022, Peter co-founded Falcon West Energy Insurance Solutions, where he applies his operations and leadership background to help companies navigate complex energy risks. Falcon West first established a strong presence in North Dakota, Wyoming, California, and Louisiana (core regions for oilfield operations) and has since expanded into Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and most recently Alaska. This strategic growth reflects Falcon West’s mission to support energy producers, service contractors, and operators nationwide.

Peter specializes in energy-specific insurance coverages, pollution liability, environmental protection, and custom commercial insurance programs. He also developed Falcon West’s Risk Management Advisory Council and CORE Programs—initiatives designed to educate clients, improve coverage efficiency, and drive cost savings through disciplined risk management practices. The advantage of these programs is that clients gain exclusive access to specialized resources and vendor discounts, enabling them to achieve greater savings and revenue opportunities.

In 2024, Falcon West partnered with Major League Rugby (MLR) to launch a paid internship program for professional athletes, offering real-world experience through a curriculum co-developed by Peter with energy industry advisors.

The idea for the podcast grew out of a conversation with Mike Umbro of Californians for Energy and Science. It embodies Peter’s belief that local energy is community energy—rooted in craftsmanship, hard work, and stewardship of the natural resources that power daily life.
